Bibilicious

Bibs. We're all about bibs around here at the moment. And not just because my beautiful niece gave me the excuse to make some new ones. Or because MP-2 has me thinking about the many, many, many things that  I want to make for her.  Or even because my favourite online gift shop has just ordered a bitrillion from me.
No, we're actually all about bibs because when I haven't been creative for a while and am suffering a little block, or suffering from just too many ideas to know where to start, the best thing for me is to concentrate on something small.
And actually that's a good tip from me. If you find that you're overwhelmed and therefore suffering from a creative block, find something that doesn't require a brand new pattern but that can allow you to get excited again about what you do. It really does help and takes the pressure off.

For me, bibs is a great one. I know the pattern (and for those who've asked - I just drew a pattern out freehand on craft paper and use that), there's nothing complicated that causes brain freeze and it's small enough to be finished in well under an hour. And best of all, there are unlimited fabric combinations that really do allow you to get back in to it all. Perfect and fun.

I wanted these bibs to actually be a part of a babies outfit, instead of just covering it up. When Bella was a baby most of her baby friends wore bibs constantly throughout the day to keep their outfits clean. But I couldn't bear to do that because I couldn't find any bibs that were actually pretty and hated seeing her in an ugly boring bib. So I decided to make some that were as pretty as Bella's actual clothes, and because young babies only drink milk, you don't have to worry about orange food stains!

I know that a lot of people finish their bibs with bias binding ties, but when Bella was a baby it drove me nuts when I had to try and tie up a bib with Bella wriggling around like a big juicy worm. So I use press studs on these bibs, which I find a lot easier. It also means that the bib doesn't rub on the back of the neck.

So that's where we've been for the last few days. Bibs. Lots of them. For boys and girls.
Do you think that there's going to be a lot more baby stuff around here in the oncoming months then ??

These are so cute!

ooh, press stud fastenings are so much easier (and safer). seems a shame to let them get covered in baby dribble they are so nice, but i know what you mean about some babies needing to wear a bib all the time. my youngest is 2 and he still dribbles like mad every day!

They are all so beautiful Manda. It makes me think of having another just so I have an excuse to buy one ... ;-)

Great idea to pick up known projects when the creative block arrives. You are some speedy sewer! Lovely fabric-combinations again!

They're gorgeous, any baby wearing one of these is a very special baby indeed!

These are beautiful. I love the fabric combinations, the colours are fantastic. Would it be wrong to make a three year old wear one?.....

Yes!! That's so true about the small projects, and bibs happen to be on my list of tried and trues as well. I think I'm in love with every one of your combos, which shouldn't be surprising considering I have half of these fabrics and begrudgingly denied myself the others. :) They're great, Manda.

I love bibs, too. They're lovely. :0)

You're going to make a whole lot of babies look very pretty!!

All these bibs are beauiful! I love the red coloured ones and of course the one with the goldfish fabric!!

Wow! You have been busy! The 3rd fabric in the first photo on the first bib (pink blossomy floursack) Which i belive is a repro..anyway i just bought the original at a tagsale! Haha random i know ;D anway where did you get that adorable animal fabric in seconds photo first bib ? I Looooooveee it!!! And the very last photo-the middle bib, my very favorite fabric combo-well done!!

I love the bibs. I am very anxiously awaiting pin cushions! Don't force me to make my own (no telling what the results would be!) It's so nice to hear your calm, happy tone. May the next months be just as peaceful!

holy moley! How do you do it? So much product in so little time! I am jealous, and must find a way to speed my own production up! Great job, Amanda!

All those bibs are so adorable. I wish I had known you when Isabelle was a baby and I could have bought some from you. I agree that babies tend to live in bibs and they should be cute to match their outfits. I like the press stud idea too, nothing harder than trying to tie a bib on a wriggly baby.

They are all so sweet! I like the idea of the snap instead of a tie around the neck, great idea. It's lovely that you're taking your time and just enjoying the creative process without pressuring yourself. I admire that attitude.

Manda, the bibs are just wonderful. I'm so glad you're feeling like yourself again too.

So beautiful, and inspiring me to get out the sewing machine and fabric stash! Been reading your blog for a while, this is my first comment. I really love your work.

Every time you post patchwork stuff, I get serious stash envy! I wish I was as productive as you! :D You must be feeling a LOT better!

xoxo

When I read the title of your post I thought you were born again! What a relief to see all those gorgeous bibs lined up! Very lovely,if only I knew someone who's expecting!

I love the idea of putting a chenille backing on them. I wish they had been around when my three used bibs. So soft. No crunchy plastics.

I don't comment very often but just had to pipe up and say how much I love the fabric and colour combinations on these bibs. Gorgeous!

beautiful manda!
i'm glad that you're feeling well enough and have the energy to begin crafting again.
