I may be biased but....
I really need to start posting more often again. And am trying to think of an easy way to get back in to it. Any ideas? I don't really want to just post photo's because the light here is still iffy and it's really hard to get decent daily photo's. But I can't really think of anything else.
I'll have to have a proper think about it, but in the mean time, I am sadly proud of myself for having conquered a whole new skill...
Yep, I finally, finally mastered my Bias Binding Maker! After owning one for over 6 months now, and frequently running out of bias tape, I sucked up the fear yesterday and finally made my own bias tape.
It took me a whole two minutes to read and grasp the instructions and then a further three minutes to make the actual binding.
Yep, that would make it an entire five minutes from beginning to end... and I've been avoiding trying to work out how to use this for the last 6 months!
Of course now that I'm a pro at it, there's no stopping me, it's going to be bias binding city around here from now on.
I bought the towel (and a further 4) that I've used the binding on, from Ikea for 10p, purely to use on Lily's changing mats. But I wanted them to look pretty, so I'm binding them all first with different fabrics (because I have so much spare time on my hands!).
And as if that wasn't enough, I also finally finished and washed Lily's quilt yesterday.
I haven't been able to get a proper photo of it yet, but you get the general idea.
I've used various red prints, but wanted a strong contrasting colour, so decided to sew the houses on to strips of blue linen and then to compliment that, bound the quilt with a blue striped fabric.
For the backing I used a piece of a duvet cover from Ikea that I really love.

Of course, it can be pretty hard to concentrate on work around here...

You have accomplished so much, when you consider how much you have going on. I didn't sew for months after having my babies. The quilt looks beautiful, as do all the other pictures - especially the last.

Oh my, look at that wise little face having a good "think" on daddy's shoulder. And she's holding on pretty good, too.
Okay, you've convinced me. I can learn to make seam tape. Those little doohickeys always looked too easy to use. I was suspicious. Now I want to give it a try. Your towel looks so finished. And it reminds me of vintage things from my childhood - which was mrfmmmdhmn years ago. :)

You are amazing. And while I cut you much slack 'cause you did just create a human life...am so glad you are not resting on your laurels and still creating and sharing. All photographs are wonderful. But if you took that one of Daddy and Baby (why do I not know her name?) you are even more talented than we know. And THAT is part of the reason why you are amazing.

Lovely quilt. I made my first baby quilt last week. And then I sold it! My first ever sale. 6 months ago I couldn't sew a stitch and here I am buying fabric and making stuff. It all started when someone sent me one of your playmats! You are such an inspiration. (Although I have to say when I see your stuff I do think to myself "will I ever make anything that nice"?!)

Adorable binding.
Amazing quilt.
Gorgeous husband.
Beautiful baby!
(she looks so much like Bella in this photo!)
Approval from me on all counts: and as you should know by now, we couldn't care less if you blogged about a brown paper bag, we'd still come over to visit.
Love to you and yours,
Leah xx

Beautiful quit! I really love the colors and those little houses are so sweet. You are so very talented at selecting fabrics and mixing patterns. The quilt is truely beautiful. Your baby girl is stunning, so sweet sleeping on daddy's shoulder :)

Look at that sweet little face. I wouldn't get a darned thing done.
I love my bias tape maker. I want one in every size so I can bias tape every piece of fabric in existence. That quilt looks wonderful - very inspirational for finishing my own.

Stunning quilt - I love the combination of reds and pale blues! And thank you for sharing your experience on the binding tool - I have one too and have been hesitant in giving it a shot :-)
Such a wonderfully sweet photo of daddy and lily!

Oh, my. What a precious girl.
I marvel at the fact that you have gotten to sew at all the past few weeks. I hope that means that things are settling a bit.
Lovely quilt.
Sweet picture of baby and daddy.
Take care.

in the weeks that followed the birth of my son, i was either quietly staring at him, or i was sleeping. not because i loved him so desperately (though i did) but because i was more tired & overwhelmed than humanly possible. i was lucky to get through a day without... nope, just lucky to get through.
& there you are mastering bias, & finishing sewing projects!!! pretty amazing.
i love the daddy/baby photo :-)
