Marie Claire Idees
The very kind Valerie heard my pitiful cries regarding the new Marie Claire Idees baby issue and popped one in the post to me.
And yes, of course it's everything that I thought it would be. Boy do these people know how to put together a magazine.
First though, I have to make a confession about this photo. I absolutely love the colour of the crib. Even though it's purple/lilac/plummy. Which is a little strange, because I hate purple. Really hate it. Not like I hated orange or yellow (neither of which I hate now of course) but so much more.
Of course I heard the warning bell when I saw this post . I tried to deny it though. I mean just because Hillary liked it suddenly, it didn't mean that my opinion was going to change. After all, I'm a strong person with my own views, aren't I?
No, apparently not. Apparently I'm just about to cave when it comes to my purple hatred. Apparently all these years of knowing that purple is the suckiest of colours is about to be washed down the drain. And even worse than that, it' s not just restricted to cribs, because today I admired a plum coloured jacket for Lily. For the love of Pete, what the hell is going on?
Frankly I blame Hillary .

I still love the crib though. So much so that I'm thinking that Bella's bed would look very nice painted that colour.
Amy's been working on a baby kimono pattern that I'm waiting for her to post (no pressure or anything), but in the mean time, I'm thinking that I might make one of these. Maybe even in the same (purple!) Liberty print.

I love all the florals and the Liberty prints.
But this is my favourite photo. It would be wonderful to be able to do the girls room like this. But unfortunately I have a three year old that would be a hell of a lot more interested in a Disney Princess room (never gonna happen) than something cool like this. Bahh, kids!
And this is just gorgeous. I'm definitely making this outfit for Lily. Definitely. And not in purple. Because purple sucks. Ok?
And since we're on the subject of babies. Here's mine...
Ha ha, love that hat and the alert little expression on her face.
All the photos are gorgeous. Don't fear the purple . . . come over to the dark side of mauve and lilac . . . you'll like it, I promise . . .

So, we'll be seeing lots of purple-related posts now shall we? Now I like purple, but I absolutely hate orange!!

It is funny how our likes and dislikes can be swayed. I find myself very resistent to new fashion trends usually right until they are going out, then they start appealing to me. Either that or I think things are cool way before they actually are, making me pretty un-cool. In any case, we always have the option to change our minds!
I so enjoyed reading this post today!

Oh my goodness. That last picture took me by surprise. What a sweetie.

Oh. My. God.
Please look at her little face. She is at that awesome age where she is still tiny and huggable and lumpy, but starting to wiggle and interact and stuff. I LOVE BABIES!
The kimono pattern is up! At least I thought it was....ugh....still learning. I need to figure out what I did wrong.....I was going to see if Lily is willing to do a little test fitting for me? ;)

Hi Manda! Purple is a strange one isnt it...Im not a huge fan but sometimes I catch myself liking it and it shocks me too; especially when my mum has the poem 'Warning, by Jenny Joseph' on her notice board SCARY : ) xxxx
PS Im being induced today since I have a lazy baby, so keep your fingers crossed for me : )

Hmm. I think the cot is more mauve than purple and perhaps that is what makes it more acceptable! p.s. do they have patterns in that magazine?
Posted by:Sam | May 09, 2008 at 11:40 AM
Hi Manda,
You are so like Al, she is not keen on purple and lilacs either. I love them, especially with green...think of lavender plants. She surprisingly recently acquired some purple clothes...now there is definately something strange at work there...and now you. I do love the colour of that cot... go on i dare you!
nice to see how your little cutie is growing. So very sweet.
lots of love
Ginny x
p.s. purple goes really well with orange too

There is nothing like a pale lilac. Maybe it's because it's lilac season here, but I want everything to be lilac right now. That magazine looks amazing. I get the regular Idees, but not that one. Now I want it!!!! Lily is gorgeous. Just like her big sister!!!

Actually Manda I've been buying aubergine not purple!!!!! For some desperate reason I can not seem to shake off a passion for duck egg blue and chocolate brown - the house is starting to be taken over by it. Knitting baby B cardigans in both colours too in organic cotton - scrumptious.
6 weeks to go tomorrow and counting!
All my love,
Al xxxxx

I never was one for purple either, but these days plum doesn't looks so bad and sometimes I even like it with yellow. Lavender will never happen though, not on my watch.

Love the hat! Is that a pattern I could purchase from your store? I promise not to make it in purple, though it is my favorite color!
