Did you know that from September 16th you will be able to buy the new version of Martha Stewart Living magazine right here in the UK?
As of next month Martha Stewart is launching a UK version of the her hugely popular US magazine.
The magazine will apparently feature the same articles as the US version, along with UK specific features to appeal to it's new readership.
As well as Martha Stewart Living, there are intentions to publish 3 other magazines, although as far as I know MSL will be the only monthly publication, with the rest being printed quarterly.
I'll be really interested to see how the magazine fairs in the UK and how much of a UK slant it has to it. Whilst I generally enjoy it and love the photography, I have to admit that I often find the magazine in its entirety a little too saccharin for my tastes. I honestly don't think that the UK in general has quite the same desire to recreate Martha's take on perfect domesticity.
I'm also wondering how much of an interest there will be for the magazine on this side of the pond, when Martha Stewart simply doesn't have anything like the following she has in the US. Whereas in America she can do no wrong, you would be unlikely over here to find a passerby in any shopping centre who really knows (or cares) who she is.
Don't get me wrong though, I think this is great news and will definitely be first in line for the October issue (Sept.16th). I just hope that, particularly in this climate with magazines folding every day, there really will be the interest necessary to keep the UK version going because we really could use a beautifully styled home magazine that features recipes, crafts, interiors, interviews and shopping tips and when Martha does it right, she really does it right.
As if that wasn't enough, coinciding with the launch of the magazine is the publication of her new book, Martha Stewart's Encyclopedia of Sewing and Fabric Craft which features a huge range of projects from past US issues and is a great way to see what she's all about. And as I'm going to be reviewing the book in the next couple of weeks, you'll be able to get a sneaky peak of it right here.
